Antabus 500mg (Disülfiram Tablet)
Alcohol antagonist; 500mg Disulfiram tablets for the treatment of chronic alcohol dependence.
Antabus 500mg (Disülfiram Tablet)
Antabus contains 500mg of Disulfiram, an aldehyde dehydrogenase inhibitor. It is indicated as an aid in the management of selected patients with chronic alcohol dependence who want to remain in a state of enforced sobriety. It works by interfering with the metabolism of alcohol, causing a highly unpleasant reaction (nausea, vomiting, flushing, tachycardia) if even small amounts of alcohol are consumed. It is not a cure for alcoholism but acts as a physical deterrent. Use must be accompanied by supportive and psychotherapeutic treatment. Patients must be fully informed of the 'Disulfiram-Alcohol' reaction and avoid all hidden sources of alcohol (e.g., mouthwashes, certain foods).
